Meet the Remote Team

As someone who is passionate about sustaining the built environment and the role of Facilities Management (FM), Kristen Barlish is currently pursuing her PhD in Construction Management with a focus on FM at Arizona State University, in the School of Sustainability and the Built Environment. Kristen first became interested in the field of FM through her professional and research experiences in the construction industry and international studies. The notion of sustainability from the perspectives of life-cycle planning, leadership, and measurement were of particular interest to her. In her career, Kristen has had the opportunity to work in the building industries for large international contractors, owners, consulting entities, and recently as an educator in the field. She has also served in leadership roles with the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), where she applied for the opportunity to work on the Facilities Management International Profiles Definition Study (FMIPDS) to define all possible professions of Facility Managers internationally. With her industry experience, targeted research, and passion for FM, Kristen is proud to be contributing to such a landmark study and critical report to the industry. Kristen will be leading the remote team, participating from the USA in this endeavor. - Kristen Barlish
My name is Alita Jones, I am in my fourth year of the Bachelor of Applied Technology - Architecture Project and Facility Management (APFM) at Conestoga College in Ontario, Canada. My focus is on sustainability and facility management; which I have supported with engagement in the IFMA Conestoga College Student Chapter, IFMA Toronto Chapter, and the Canada Green Building Council. Through my program I have been fortunate enought to win two IFMA Foundation Scholarships allowing me to attend the World Workplace Conference in 2011 and 2012. I have also studied International Facility Management at Hanze University in the Netherlands for one block in 2012. This has led me to have a strong interest regarding participating in international facility management programs, and therefore I am leading 14 of our students in the APFM program in supporting the IFMA Foundation research project on defining roles in FM. - Alita Jones

I am a Master student at the University of Sydney. My double specialisation is in Sustainable Design and Building Services with focus on Facilities Management. During my studies I have assisted in various comfort related research projects, whereby I have developed good knowledge and practical experience involving high and low rise buildings. This has required understanding of the latest data gathering techniques, the use of sophisticated instrumentation as well as a broaden understanding of Facilities Management.  These combined with my current subjects have given me the confidence and enjoyment to centre my attention to the FM area and to be participating in this unique project. My background is in architecture. I am currently running a masters in facilities management in Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria. As at now I am as much as possible pulling my weight on the little experience I have gathered being an architect, member of IFMA,Abuja chapter, my FMP designation,my FM academic knowledge and of course some international exposure from IFMA World Workplace. I must say it’s not been a walk in the park as most people over here and in my workplace (Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation) still see FM as the traditional maintenance practice, hence refer to FM as same. Changing their orientation and thinking is still work in progress as the FM concept is still emerging as a profession to reckon with in Nigeria and indeed Africa. Miyedo Vincent Egbuson
